CONFIRMATION BIAS
An animated design proposal.
OVERVIEW
Confirmation bias can affect all of us, and we may not even be aware of it. Recognising and avoiding confirmation bias is critical for triple zero call-takers due to the nature of their work, particularly when verifying the location of the emergency; they must be sure they're sending help to the right place.
I was asked to create a design proposal for a training package aimed at helping emergency call-takers overcome confirmation bias when verifying locations, and present my proposal to a panel for consideration. My design included animation and interactive branching scenarios, but some of the panel members were not familiar with eLearning principles or the use of animation for educational applications. To ensure we were all on the same page, I created an animated video to demonstrate the technologies involved and explain how they could be used to create modern, engaging training.
Part storyboard, part explainer, the video covers the use of animation in eLearning, the course topics and structure, and the reasoning behind my design decisions. Enjoy!
